About Barnes Associates

Richard J. Barnes

Founded the business in 1989 after a career in personnel management and industrial relations.  Richard was a full time official of the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association and a Personnel Manager with London Regional Transport, Wiggins Teape and the James River Corporation of Virginia USA as well as having a short spell as an Industrial Relations Manager with Bovis on the London Bishopsgate Development in the late 1980s.  Over the last 17 years, Richard has worked with many well known organisations such as the Kingfisher Group, AMEC, Lucas Diesels and Anglian Water on major change initiatives.  He has also provided support to many medium sized businesses on Personnel, Quality and Business growth related projects.

 

He is co-author of “TQM in Action”, a book which outlines a successful structured approach to cultural change through TQM.  He is also the author of “The Improvement Toolkit”, a guide to continuous improvement tools and techniques as well as “High Fives” a motivational guide book for improvement and project team members.  Richard is the Managing Director of Culturetracker.com Limited, a business specialising in cultural surveys and change management.

The Business

Barnes Associates have helped large and medium sized organizations in both the public and private sectors of industry with significant change programmes as well as providing training and employment law advice.  After nearly 20 years the business has an established client base in the UK as well as long standing relationships with Academia and a National Training Organisation.  Our consultants can provide support in any area of Quality, Safety, Human Resource Management and Business Development.

*       Overseeing ISO9000 development for a Plant Hire Company

*            Development of ISO14001 management system for a printing company

*       Employment Law advice and training for several East Anglian Companies

*       Design and presentation of a range of Management Development courses, including, among others, modules on recruitment and selection, employment law/discipline, leadership, teamworking, process improvement, project management problem solving, decision making, managing meetings and influencing skills

*       Project management support and business systems development for a Plant Hire Business, helping the Company quadruple in size over 3 years through entirely organic growth in a static market.  Company is now the third largest supplier in its field

*       Managing Change programme for an Essex food manufacturer, incorporating Business Planning, Training needs analysis, development of a Human Resource management infrastructure and managerial and supervisory training design and delivery.  The programme led to the organisation winning a Training Award and the Queen’s Award for Exports

*       Mentoring of Industrial Trainees for a Paper Maker

*       Security process reviews for a major Examinations Board and auditing of its suppliers tendering for work with them
