Employment Law SERVICES

From training to telephone and on-site advice, Barnes Associates have trained and advised hundreds of managers across all sectors of industry on Employment Law implications related to matters such as recruitment, discipline, dismissal, redundancy and business transfers.

Our courses include basic and comprehensive levels of training in employment law as well as regular briefings on new legislation and case law developments.

Legal advice is a core part of our locum service offering for Small and Medium sized employers looking for a cost effective way to ensure their systems meet the requirements of today’s complex employment regulations as well as Health and Safety and Quality Assurance compliance.  See the Locum Support page for more details.

See our newspage for information on forthcoming conferences, training courses or important decisions or changes in legislation.

Information and Consultation

We are specialists in the development of employee relations structures and arrangements with experience from both Trade Union and Management perspectives.  With the advent of the Information and Consultation Regulations from April 2005, it is more critical than ever to have collaborative, mutually agreed, systems in place.  The threshold for the law to bite is 50 employees from April 2008.  Businesses need to act early to be safe from the dangers of swingeing fines.  MacMillan Publishers were recently fined £55,000 for their slowness to respond to union attempts to have consultation procedures installed.  Had they installed pre-existing agreements prior to the regulations coming into force this could not have happened.

We can help with a range of support including:-

¨      In-Company presentations to managers or division/dept/location heads on the regulations (for larger organisations)

¨      Advice on handling applications or getting pre-existing arrangements formalised and secure from challenge

¨      Communication Strategy Development

¨      Conducting an employee survey of communications or culture

¨      Model Agreements - customisation to local circumstances

¨      Outsourcing of response to applications and chairing negotiation of agreement

¨      Training of management and/or employee representatives in their roles and responsibilities

¨      Joint problem solving/mediation focus sessions where negotiations stall

¨      Hosting launch events for new arrangements
